The Future of EntertainmentMasta Recka - Artist/Songwriter

Masta Recka was born Rupert Junior Green on October 7th, 1977 in Kingston, Jamaica. At age 17, he left his hometown to join his grandmother in the Bronx, New York, where he soon began writing lyrics for underground rap artists.

In 1996, he graduated with top honors from Evander Child's High School in the Bronx, N. Y.  He consequently attended SUNY Old Westbury College, earning a BS in Chemistry in 2000. Before relocating to South Florida, he continued on to Stony Brook University in pursuit of an MS in Theater.

Recka was first discovered by one of New York’s hottest radio stations, Hot 97, during a college concert series at Old Westbury College. His electrifying style and energy captivated audiences. Soon, he was nicknamed what would become his artistic name, “Masta Recka,” a name symbolizing his unforgettable performances, which always “wrecked the house,” leaving fans screaming for more.

When his younger brother “Kila Youth” took over the music scene in New York, a motivated Masta Recka began to experiment with crossover music and eventually joined and helped form the dancehall group ‘Topshotta Crew.’ The popular group landed a record deal after a superb performance at Jamroc Night Club, New York.  Legendary hip-hop artist “Special Ed” was the group’s first producer. Everything was in place for success but Recka departed from the group when several of its members began to show a lack of interest.

Masta Recka went on to write and edit a vast collection of books, plays and screenplays; he also became the founder and owner of his current publishing company, the Masta Recka Publishing Company - BMI.

In 2008, Masta Recka joined the group ‘SJ,’ featuring Edson Jean, Jeano, J.R, and Jayy Blakk. Recka contributed his still-electrifying sounds to their latest singles "So Fine" and “Sweetheart.” The group is already making a name for itself after being dubbed with the hottest music of 2009 by South Florida radio stations and listeners. Recka is still a part of SJ today, as the group continues to embark on what is sure to be a promising career in the music industry.                                                                                                                                                                   Today, Masta Recka is constantly molding his lyrical scheme, which continues to entrap audiences, constantly earning him standing ovations around the world. Throughout his personal career, he has shared stage with legendary artists such as hip-hop icon Foxy Brown, Jimmy Cozier, RL, Best Man, and Reggae superstar Spragga Benz
